Hello,
I'm Kento.

I am a lead developer at LBC IT Solutions, based in Toronto. I also mentor a few students over at Humber College in an attempt to make coding skills accessible to more people.

I value integrity with a healthy dose of humor. When I'm not coding, you can probably find me at your local bouldering gym, testing the limits of my body that is over 3 decades old.

Experience

Here is a history of my work experiences related to software development, over the course of the past 5 years.

I've had the privilege of working on interesting projects, ranging from simple WordPress websites to enterprise-level applications used by thousands of users every day.

LBC IT Solutions

Lead Full-stack Developer (April 2020 - Current)

I lead a small team software engineers to develop an enterprise-level web application for tracking and managing employee performance, using React, TypeScript, .NetCore and SQL. We deliver high quality code to build a robust solution (though we also know when to prioritize shipping things quickly when we need to) for one of Canada's largest telecommunication companies. I provide leadership through thorough documentation, knowledge sharing and mentorship.

The Prosperity Project

Volunteer Developer (July 2020 - August 2022)

In partnership with Deloitte, I built and maintained the Canadian Prosperity Project website using Heroku, React and Contentful. Also developed a multi-lingual blog website using a custom WordPress theme.

Axess Creative

Co-Owner (August 2019 - January 2020)

I have co-founded a web development firm with a focus of building websites for clients that meet the WCAG 2.0 Level AA web accessibility standards. Designed, developed, and communicated with clients to identify their online needs, and created solutions using tools such as WordPress and Node/React.

Simplistics Web Design

Intern Developer (July 2019 - September 2019)

Developed and deployed custom WordPress websites like this one for small to mid-sized businesses, ranging from real-estate industries to local education boards. I was involved in the Quality Assurance process by writing test cases and actively performing tests.

About

Experienced team lead in developing human-centric applications

I have an educational background in Psychology and Web Development. Currently, I am a team lead in building large-scale web application to help businesses understand their employee performance. I build things you'll probably never see (due to NDAs), but I assure you we get great reviews from our clients!

Having worked in various capacities to support individuals with disabilities prior to my coding days, I now focus on building websites that promote accessibility and ease of use. I like to apply the lessons learned from the Curb Cut Effect when building applications - making an application accessible benefits everyone.

Outside work, I also mentor a few web development students in an attempt to make coding skills more accessible to people wanting to make a career shift into the tech world. I focus on breaking down problems into bite-size chunks to demonstrate the fact that most complex problems are made up of smaller sub-problems - unless that problem is date-time/timezone related. Then it's just complicated.
